It's not often that I spend my early Saturday mornings out of bed. But I couldn't resist photographing Kaci and her team of talented ladies at Damsel Floral creating a farm-to-table design using flowers grown and picked right from her backyard garden, and tableware from Grand Rapids local businesses.
I met Kaci last year while photographing a wedding in downtown Grand Rapids. Her work stood out to be immediately. She had a way of making the smallest arrangements pop, and could bring them to life with a sense of fullness. When I talked with her on Saturday morning while photographing her, she talked to me about how her designs are typically always full of color and texture. She told me that overall, she enjoys product local because it looks its best then, and she can support local farmers and micro businesses like herself. She wanted to show that it is possible to compose beautiful tablescapes using minimal, and close to home, items and florals.
I had such a great time with these girls, and the lighting and location was absolutely perfect for the film photography lover in me. Check out Kaci's work, and the other great vendors.
